The newest HTUF working group is the Military Hybrid Non-Tactical Vehicle Working Group.  The main objective of this group is to increase the deployment of commercially-available hybrid trucks throughout the military services.  This will be accomplished by identifying common platforms and applications, making joint purchases where possible, and insuring that new hybrid trucks are part of the federal GSA purchasing schedule.  The first activity will be to buy down the incremental costs of some early trucks and place them in service at several military bases in the U.S.  The long-term goal is to increase purchase volumes so that the incremental costs will come down.  The group will consist of representatives of each of the armed services, the Department of Defense, the Office of the Secretary of Defense, and “champions” from several key military installations.
