HTUF 2006 NATIONAL MEETING SET FOR SAN DIEGO IN NOVEMBER
The dates have been set for the Hybrid Truck Users Forum (HTUF) 6th National Meeting in what is shaping up as a milestone year for hybrids. The meeting will take place November 14-16, 2006, in San Diego, California. Please mark your calendars, plan your travel and register for this meeting today!The HTUF 2006 National Meeting will span a Tuesday through Thursday time frame, and is hosted by an impressive industry team lead by ISE Corporation, together with Maxwell Technology and Siemens. We anticipate strong attendance and will have significant briefings on hybrid work truck performance and the status of new products becoming available in the truck and bus world. Every major truck maker and system supplier should be on hand, together with the leading fleets in the nation interested in and making the first moves in hybrid trucks.More details are coming soon, but here's the agenda outline:
  • Tuesday November 14 - fleet-only Working Group meetings, followed by an evening reception;
  • Wednesday November 15 - a full day of briefings and information sharing from fleets and manufacturers on hybrid truck operational results, technology updates, funding developments and the status of test processes for fuel economy and emissions, followed by a great networking dinner;
  • Thursday November 16 - a half day featuring the HTUF ride and drive of medium and heavy-duty hybrid trucks, the nation's biggest gathering place of real hybrid product. Fleet members receive priority to kick the tires and drive these vehicles.

We expect a full house for the 2006 meeting, so make your plans today. Look for more details on hotel and registration in the next few weeks.

Working Group Updates
The HTUF Parcel Working Group is close to sending out a Request for Proposal (RFP) for 20-30 pre-production hydraulic hybrid parcel delivery trucks, in the Class 4 and 6 size ranges. The group has received input from manufacturers and suppliers and is finalizing its requirements. HTUF has raised support funding to assist the fleets in this deployment.

The Refuse Working Group is nearly complete with its specification development and is finalizing duty-cycle requirements. The group is hoping to send out a Request for Information (RFI) to manufacturers and suppliers soon, focused on a goal of building and assessing 20-30 pre-production hybrid refuse trucks.

The Utility Working Group will in August gather purchase commitments from fleets for a follow-on deployment of hybrids beyond the first 24 trucks now deployed. The limited production run will produce up to 100 hybrid Class 6/7 work trucks, to be built in the fall of 2006.
