Hybrid Parcel Delivery Truck Working Group – The
Hybrid Parcel Delivery Truck Working Group consists of representatives
from several major parcel delivery fleets in North America with WestStart
acting as the group’s facilitator. The goal of the working group
is to accelerate commercialization of hybrid drive system technologies
in parcel delivery trucks. The working group hopes to accomplish this
goal by generating specifications for common class 4 and class 6 hybrid
parcel delivery truck chassis, engaging with the supplier community
to stimulate production of such vehicles and committing to joint purchases
of pre-production vehicles meeting these specifications. Working group
fleets will subsequently conduct in-use evaluations of the vehicles
and assuming the vehicles meet performance expectations and a business
case can be shown, the fleets will commit to purchasing additional
vehicles as part of their normal vehicle replacement cycle.
By
agreement among the current working group members, the initial
focus of the working group will be solely on hydraulic hybrid drive
system technologies. At its discretion, the working group may decide
to consider hybrid electric drive system applications in the future.
FedEx
Ground and UPS serve as the user leads for this group.
