Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City, California, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Symosium is offered in conjuction with the WestStart
Clean Heavy Duty Vehicle Conference 2007

This one day event plans to explore hydrogen internal combustion engine (HICE) applications in some depth through briefings and a workshop with a goal to lay out prudent near term opportunities for HICE technology. At the first HICE Symposium in February 2006, industry and government experts revealed a range of hydrogen internal combustion engine (HICE) power plant technologies that may well help bridge the transition to hydrogen as a transportation fuel. The 2007 symposium builds on the results that symposium and subsequent work to help formulate options for paths forward that can support the transition to hydrogen as a transportation fuel.

Symposium Mission
WestStart and the Federal Transit Administration plan a special programs and technologies review on February 13, 2007, at the Hilton Universal City in Los Angeles, California to be run the day prior with the opening day activities of the Clean Heavy Duty Vehicle Conference 2007. The intent is to offer reviews of the most recent U.S. and foreign HICE and HCNG-ICE activities to foster greater industry coordination and collaboration.

Planned symposium content …

  • Industry Briefings - Hear from invited program managers and industry experts representing the private-sector suppliers, public transit suppliers and automobile original equipment manufacturers discussing their commercial vision and current vehicle programs surrounding introduction of hydrogen power plant technologies.
  • Technology Research – Speakers invited from industry developers and government laboratories will provide recent results of research thrusts and technology development programs related to HICE and hydrogen-blend engines. Hear the latest achievements in performance testing, reliability effects and emissions impacts from key speakers.
  • Panel Workshop – Agency and industry experts will discuss, in a moderated panel format, key applications by major users, the impetus for purchase of these power plants, regional and national programs influencing potential markets, viable pathways for introduction and the effects of infrastructure, economics and public acceptance.
  • HICE Opportunities - Hear about the research opportunities and implementation efforts from state and local agencies, infrastructure providers and communities that may benefit the potential industry markets. The demand for fleet vehicles and the interest to encourage infrastructure by regional organizations can influence the pathways forward.
  • Poster Presentations – Since the amount of on-going work and the increasing number of projects are difficult to adequately cover in a single day, poster presentations will also be available throughout the day offering attendees a chance to review select projects one-on-one with a presenting expert. The intent is to foster greater coordination and collaboration, and encourage a growth in interest from the commercial users and communities. A Call for Poster Abstracts will soon be released.
