A scan of recent coverage related to the announcement Thursday that the Climate Bill will not be introduced on the Senate floor, as expected, next week. Instead, Senate Speaker Harry Reid (D-NV) has shelved the measure due to lack of bipartisan support.
Reports from various news sources indicate that the Climate Bill planned for unveiling next week, is dead. According to Reuters, the future is cloudy for US climate change bill. "We don't have a single Republican to work with us," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada said at a news conference in the U.S. Capitol after meeting with fellow Democrats. "We don't have the votes," reports USA Today. Politico.com covered Senator Barbara Boxer's (D-CA) reaction, “We don't have the 60 votes,” said Senate Environment and Public Works Committee Chairwoman Barbara Boxer. “So Sen. Reid's a pragmatist. So rather than take us to a situation where we don't have the votes, rather than do half-measures, let's wait until we can get it done and get it right. So I think it's a smart decision.”
