New plug-in EV gets 100 miles on a charge...

Seattle, WA, April 28, 2009 - Nissan has chosen Seattle as one of the first of a cluster of cities where it will sell its new plug-in hybrid-electric vehicles reports the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. According to Mark Perry, director of product planning for Nissan North America, the hybrid will be able to 'exceed highway speed limits, go 100 miles on a charge, and recharge in four to eight hours using a 220-volt line, similar to those for clothes dryers.' Similar in size to the company's Versa and Sentra models, Perry noted that the vehicle will 'be affordable to a typical family.' The agreement between Nissan and the city of Seattle says that the automaker intends to sell the cars in the Seattle area and that it will work with government and other organizations and companies on a plan to 'promote the cars and (the) creation of a network of charging facilities.' Seattle will help develop the charging network as well as determine what incentives for buying the cars might be available.
