CLEAN FUELS

Clean Fuels:  Diverse, Clean and Low Carbon

The fuel used to power vehicles has a big impact on emissions, energy security and climate change. Therefore, clean fuels must address all three of these criteria. It is likely a poly-fuel rather than a single oil-based fuel future is what we will see, including fuels such as:

• Natural gas
    o Liquefied (LNG); Compressed (CNG)
    o Hydrogen blended NG (HCNG)
    o Renewable methane (biogas, biomethane)

• Biofuels
    o Biodiesel and renewable diesel
    o Alcohol fuels
        • Ethanol, Butanol
        • Methanol, includes cellulosic alcohol
o Advanced biofuels (Includes new sources and methods of production)
        • Waste biomass
        • Algae-based biofuels
        • Synthetic biology and novel catalysts
        • New energy crops

• Synthetic fuels and Dimethylether
    o Fisher-Tropsch liquids (Gas-to-liquids, Biomass-to-liquids)
    o Dimethylether (DME)

• Propane
• Hydrogen
• Electricity
