Rendering of CNG bus for LA MetroCALSTART continues to explore strategies related to the use of natural gas in transportation. The fuel has potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and criteria emissions and to increase fuel efficiency. The organization recognizes the benefit of what may be the cleanest available commercially available fuel for medium- and heavy-duty transportation that can provide the range and performance desired by bus and truck fleets, as well as the low cost of the fuel as compared to diesel.

Additionally, CALSTART looks to further advance use of the fuel for enabling fleets to get ready for new low NOx engines, renewable natural gas, which is already available in California today, and to further electrify the driveline to leverage fuel efficiency, GHG reduction, and to enable zero emission mile capabilities.

Our work in this area is broad and includes technical research, convening capabilities, and guidance crafting policies to help reach these goals. Below, please see some samples. Contact Fred Silver at CALSTART to get engaged, or to learn more about how we can help you or your fleet transition to natural gas as a transportation fuel.
