These web pages, Low Carbon Buses in Transportation, are intended as an objective source of information on the progress of fuel cell and hydrogen technologies in transportation including hydrogen-gas blend and hydrogen fueled internal combustion engines as important pieces of the cleaner transportation puzzle.
Under Federal Transit Administration (FTA) project awards, CALSTART is playing a vital role in the mainstreaming of hydrogen and fuel cell buses in the United States for the FTA National Fuel Cell Bus Program (NFCBP). The CALSTART NFCBP awards are part of a broader transportation strategy exploring three development paths: a direct route that develops and accelerates testing on the best existing fuel cells; an evolutionary route that combines smaller fuel cells with other supporting technologies; and a component route that develops the core enabling sub-systems.
A Transit Users Group facilitated by CALSTART with support from industry, suppliers and researchers is helping implement the three path strategy in ways relevant to the industry.
