CALSTART Member Companies Secure Nearly $200 Million for Projects in Advanced Clean Transportation Technologies
ARRA Jump Starts Activities in Electric Drives, Batteries

Pasadena, CA, August 6, 2009 – CALSTART, the nation’s leading clean transportation technologies consortium, today applauded five of its member organizations for successfully securing a total of $192.5 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding aimed at accelerating the clean transportation market. The companies awarded were Allison Transmission, Inc of Indianapolis, Indiana, which will use the funding to work on hybrid trucks, Navistar, Inc of Elkhart, Indiana, which will work on battery electric trucks, UQM Technologies, Inc of Frederick, Colorado, which will work on electric vehicle propulsion systems and a California government agency, South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCQAMD), which will deploy demonstration fleets and develop a plug-in hybrid electric system for classes 2-5 vehicles. Another CALSTART member, Eaton Corp, of Cleveland, Ohio will develop the plug-in hybrid drive system for the SCAQMD project.

“These CALSTART member organizations have technologies ready to commercialize and to transform the next generation of the world’s cars and trucks,” said John Boesel, CALSTART President and CEO. “The administration has shined a bright spotlight on the issue with these timely transportation investments – it’s a great down payment on what’s needed!  We hope this represents the start of a long-term commitment to policies, incentives and investments that support developing, building and using cleaner, more efficient vehicles.”
