And the winner is…everyone. It all started with the California Air Resources Board (ARB) decision to fund a program called the Hybrid Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Program (HVIP) to stimulate purchases of hybrid trucks and buses. And stimulate it did. CALSTART manages the program for ARB and six months and 650 trucks and buses after the launch, the $20 million in voucher funds were all applied for. But it may not be too late to request a voucher (or 100) for your own fleet. The HVIP web site will start to accept “waiting list” voucher requests soon. Also, South Coast Air Quality Management District may throw more than $1 million into the pot for vehicles that operate within its district. In other good HVIP-related news, enter the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE), which last month recognized HVIP as a top emerging energy efficiency program in the country. ACEEE recognition was only given to 18 programs in 14 states.
