CALSTART is taking the lead on three major policy efforts in California that will  have implications for almost all clean transportation technology companies.  This Thursday June 24th 1:30pm-2:30pm PDT, CALSTART’s President and CEO, John Boesel, will provide an overview of these three efforts and talk about what your company can do to help.

CALSTART’s three major California policy initiatives are as follows:

1)   Full funding in the 2010-2011 of the “AB 118” program:  CALSTART is taking the lead to get the legislature to allocate the full $200 million in this years’ budget, despite a large projected over-all deficit;

2)   Defense of the”AB 32” Program, California’s landmark climate protection legislation.  Texas oil refiners were successful in collecting enough signatures to get a proposition on the November ballot in California that would have the effect of indefinitely delaying California’s nation leading climate programs; and

3)   Effective Implementation of Cleantech Manufacturing Equipment Sales Tax Exemption:  CALSTART worked closely with the Governor and the Legislature to get legislation approved this year that should exempt sales tax from being imposed on the purchase of cleantech manufacturing equipment.  However, there are a number of complex issues associated with the implementation of this measure.  The Treasurer’s office will be having an important meeting on this topic next week.

While CALSTART works nationally with many of its members, we continue to place a lot of attention on policy development in California because in the absence of any new international accords or federal climate and energy legislation, California continues to be the policy leader for the clean transportation technology industry.
